Now that you have committed to starting the year off with 5 Features to start the year off right, it's time to get into action. As part of the list of things to do on your website, one of them is feeding your visitors, that is giving them content that is valuable and a reason to come back to your website. You do that via a blog. I'm not going to take too much time, but a blog is simply a web log. On this log, or blog, you post information such as articles, tips, and information.
What we are going to look at is what to do after you have written a blog post. So, if you don't have a blog in your website, then I suggest you contact us. When offer affordable websites in our LEXY Sites.
What Should You Do After You Write A Blog Post?
Blog posts reveal a lot about a business and the author of the post. Most good blog posts have a little personality of the author. So, if your post does not represent you well, then it will not represent your business and website well either. One way people make mistakes is with words that are spelled incorrectly. It's always good to use the spell checking feature that most blog platforms offer. Yet, even they can make mistakes with words that are homophone, words that sound the same, but are spelled different. These words can be confusing at times, and I have had moments where I needed to stop and look up a definition to make sure I had the right word. Why? because spell check knew it was a right word, but in the wrong context. Though it was spelled right, it was still a wrong because it had a different meaning. Here is a list of words you should know their proper place in spelling or are often spelled wrong:

After you have checked for spelling errors and have read the post through once, then it's always good to have someone else take a look. I have several personal blogs that I run, and for every post I write, I always have a friend of the family read it, plus my wife, and every once and a while, my mother will even take a look. When you have this many eyes on your blog, it's easy to find errors. This helps keep you posts look professional because you are keeping the quality up. So, the next time you write a blog post, make sure to have some one else take a look for errors. You can't go wrong asking for a little help from time to time.
After you publish your post, you want people to read it....right? That's the whole reason of writing a blog post. The fastest way to get some quick website traffic is to share it via social media. Just as I mentioned a "Following" in the 5 feature post, you should be active in helping people follow. There should be a way for people to share your website off the post alone. This is where you first submit you post to the world. After you write the post, go ahead a "like" it, "tweet" it, "digg" it or what ever else you may do on social media. What will happen is you friends and followers will see that you shared a link. Hopefully they will read it and do the same. That's why it is important to have quality content on your website.
After you have completed the first 3 steps, it's time to take a little break, and notice I said "little". You have finished doing a lot of work. But if you're like me, then you can't wait to see where you blog post has gone and where people are coming from to check it out.So I go to my analytics software and check my stats. I can see if people are finding my website via search engines, what keywords they used, and which pages they landed on. If they came from a social media website, I can see which one it was and which page they landed on. Also, I can see if they viewed other pages or if they bounced. I can see the average time a person stay on the website and they other pages they viewed as they were on my website.
All of this is good to see so you can find out what brings people on. On a side note, don't be discouraged if you get a few hits or even no hits. It takes time for your website to become an authority in the eyes of google. In fact, most of my traffic on new blogs only comes from twitter, facebook, and other social media platforms. After a while, you start ranking in search engines. So just keep on posting, the visitors will come sooner or later.
Now a couple of days has gone by since that blog post. Hopefully you have written another one since then. But as you go back, it's always good to see if people are sharing your blog post. Normally, the social media widgets have a number showing how many times your website has been shared. If you are not getting may shares, then there is no shame in asking your people to share the post. You can even ask your friends and followers to share it. It's also good to "revive" a dead post. One thing you can do is find an old post from a month ago or even older, and re-tweet it or like it again with a caption such as "Just in case you missed this, here is a great post on...." That helps bring traffic and hopefully people will share it again.
