What In The World Can I Do With My Own Website?

I remember being in middle when I truly introduced to the internet. We had an after school program that I stayed at because my mother worked late and the school bus didn't travel across town to my house. This after school program was in the computer lab. So after they made us complete our homework, we had access to the internet. Back then, it was very limited. It wasn't as easy as it is now to make a website. Yet, there was one place that gave people an online voice...GeoCities! I remember my would be "hacker" friend make a website. We all gathered around the workstation and were in AWE of the fact that he had his own personal website. Then all of us went straight back to our workstations and created our own websites. Kinds funny how "cool" we thought we were.

Then over my should a I heard a voice "What Are you DOING?" I thought I was in trouble, but the computer lab teacher had a crude sense of humor and liked to make us think we were in trouble, but not really. I kind mumbled that I was making a website. He then said, "I ought to make one too". After that little encounter, I thought to myself, "He's a teacher, he's not cool enough to have a website. What what it be about?"

Well, people are still able to make a website, even free of charge (with limitations of course).

A Personal Blog

This has been the craze since people first had the ability to create a website. Thought limited in the past, today, blogs have gone to new heights. People often create blogs to share their life with others. One can easily setup a blog, put some of their social media information on it and share it with their online friends. This kind of thing is getting more and more popular. It seems as everyone has a blog. Why not you?

A Business Website

This is where the entrepreneurs come in. We live in day when people are turning on their computer to find a business instead of turn to the phone book. Every business needs a website. Not only that, but they one that looks good. They also need one that can be maintained very easy. Most businesses don't have capital to hire a website designer to make a website and edit the website on "need to" basis. This is why we encourage a CMS for people that don't know how to program. An Affiliate Website

This is where people are really taking advantage of the internet. I have seen people replace their entire income based on a single website that they own. A lot times, this type of website is hybrid website that mixes a business and a blog. They write blogs posts that are extremely keyword optimized for SEO, have a good following in the social media realm as well as in an email newsletter. They are looked at as a leader because of their quality content. So when they recommend a product, people buy and buy and buy. I am not an expert in this type of website, but I have dabbled in it and have make several hundred dollars, enough to pay for my hosting and template.

A Family Website

I know I have more about business and websites on this blog, but I think we shouldn't rule out family websites. I have friends that have moved and are no longer easy to communicate with outside the internet. To make things easy for both of us, we have created websites that have updates about our family. We place pictures on them. We even have a place for people to print our family photos. On top of that, we have placed links that people click and we get a commission if someone buys (affiliate marketing). It's not much, but I know my mother in law enjoys the photos that we share. This isn't much of a website in terms of style and money making or business building, but it's fun and shares our family with our loved one and friends.
